Now You Can Float like Eleven from Stranger Things Here in Manila

If you’ve seen the series Stranger Things, you probably remember Eleven (one of the lead characters), submerge herself in an inflatable pool filled with saltwater to access a parallel dimension called the “upside down”.

Floating is a method of therapy which involves sensory deprivation–the deliberate removal of stimuli from one or more of the senses. Continue reading Now You Can Float like Eleven from Stranger Things Here in Manila

This New Boutique Studio Lets You Throw More Punches in Less Time

Seems that these days we all go for short, yet intense workouts. And yes, the more intense, the better. I got to visit the newest boutique boxing studio, Flyweight, and let’s just say their signature 45-minute class felt like a good 12-round fight. I was knocked out after, and I mean that in a good way (why do we like torturing ourselves?!) Continue reading This New Boutique Studio Lets You Throw More Punches in Less Time

The First Vegan Festival in the Philippines is Happening This November

November is World Vegan month and many countries around the globe have begun celebrating it through vegan festivals. Finally, the Philippines’ time has come and we too, get to come together for two weekends of movement workshops, talks and vegan food.

This year’s theme is all about Climate Change, a battle we have been losing for nearly half a century now. If you listened to Leonardo DiCaprio’s speech when he won the Oscar for Best Actor, you probably caught “Climate Change is REAL…” For the longest time, we have been dismissing the idea because this phenomenon never posted immediate harm…until now.

Muscle & Flow: Calibarzz Calisthenics Park Opens in Manila

If you’ve read my feature on Polarity Physiotherapy Center, you probably know that I’m on the lookout for hidden (health & fitness) gems all over the Metro. It’s a bug that bit foodies a few years back, sending them on a hunt for great places to dine in less commercial areas. It’s the same one that got fitness enthusiasts shaking their routines up and constantly trying what’s new…or is that just me?

Lifestyle Brings You a Fitter, More Glammed Up Experience this Summer

“Glamping by Lifestyle” is back and better than ever as it returns on its second year alongside the Summer Siren Festival happening this April 8 to 10 at Crystal Beach, Zambales.

Lifestyle, the country’s premier cable channel for women, partners up with Travel Factor, the country’s leading adventure company, to bring its attendees the ultimate glamping experience. Yup, no tents to pitch, sleeping bags to unroll, and fire to build here!

Coleman and H&M Home have also pitched in (pun intended!) to provide glamping tents, complete with airbeds, linens, pillows, lamps, and a fan for an extra comfortable experience.

I Stand Corrected: Myofascial Release at Polarity Physiotherapy Center

Over a month ago, I woke up with a tiny throbbing sensation at the back of my left thigh, right below the bum. “Must’ve pulled something”, I thought. I knew for sure that it wasn’t the belly of my hamstring muscle (hamstrings are located at the back of your thigh are responsible for actions such as bending the knee and extending your leg backwards) I shrugged it off thinking it would eventually go away.  I thought I’d just avoid stretching it and it would eventually heal. I like trying to “fix” things myself first before asking for help so I rested and practiced Yin yoga (passive stretches). While those things helped ease the pain that manifested each time I’d go into a deep stretch (such as a split with the left leg extended in front), I’d feel it every now and then signalling that it hasn’t really healed after all. Whole Again: Slowing Down at the IASIS Health & Wholeness Center

A couple of weeks before this month began, I found myself in a slump. It was the lowest I’ve felt in a long time and I felt frustrated when, after sitting in silence for hours, I still couldn’t shut out all the noise in my head.  Don’t get me wrong, I couldn’t really meditate for hours. It was sort of a purging I like to practice, just letting all the ideas run through my head without my notebook to take notes and taking the risk of bidding what could be a few good ideas goodbye. The Gym that Moves with You: Fitness Mobil

As I write this, I am still trying to settle from the crazy rush hour traffic I have just gotten myself out of. Around us, you’ll notice, things get busier and busier each day as we all struggle to keep up with the pace of how things flow here in the Metro.

I wanted to catch a group exercise class in one of the fitness clubs I like to go to, but at 6:30 PM, it seemed traveling from BGC to Makati was not an option. I just told myself I’ll make up for it tomorrow morning. This has got me thinking, if I already experience difficulty in catching a fitness class squeezing a workout in after a long day, I’m sure others go through it too–and probably even more than I do.
